The east Leeds orbital route is a key part of the east Leeds extension infrastructure works programme. The project consists of a combination of elements to help improve and manage the existing and future traffic flows to the northeast of the city of Leeds. Forming a critical part of the wider transport improvements in the east Leeds extension, these include highways, capacity, and improvements to two junctions on sections of the existing outer ring road west of Red Hall at the A6120/Roundhay park lane junction and the A6120/A61 Harrogate Road junction. The main east Leeds orbital route works stretches from the outer ring road at Red Hall round the east side of Leeds to Thorpe Park joining a new Manston Lane link road where it would connect into the existing highway infrastructure and link to the M1 motorway. This element of works will provide the capacity to support increased traffic from allocated development in the east Leeds extension, as well as relieving congestion on the existing network.
K Rouse Civil Engineers Ltd provided all project management, engineering, and site supervisory staff. They operated night works and weekend works where work was traffic sensitive for example road crossings. This is a 76-week contract with a value of 7 million pounds and K Rouse Civil Engineers Ltd resources have peaked at 16 drainage gangs.
K Rouse Civil Engineers works included 14,000 meters of carrier pipe up 1500mm diameter, 11,000 meters of filter pipe up to 900mm diameter, 400 chambers up to 2.7 meters deep and 60 concrete headwalls.
