Working for Clugston K Rouse completed the canal side works for Kirklees Council under the supervision of British Waterways.

Our scope of works was to redevelop a section of the canal by raising its base by 3m, building a new lock and drainage, public realm works and up-grading the adjacent river wall with a Gabion Structure.

1400m3 of structural concrete was poured between October and March with the canal being reopened on schedule for the new season.

The key to the construction was the design of the temporary works structures around the new lock gate structures which were being built on the line of existing canal. These were developed as 3 sided cofferdams propped off the existing capping beam and canal walls.
